Ukrainian artist Olga Kamenetskaya wants to give Barbies, Bratz, Monster High, Blythe, and pretty much every other doll you grew up with a one-of-a-kind realistic makeover. Kamenetskaya removes every inch of makeup and create a literal clean slate. Then she modifies their features and changes their proportions. Her goal? To completely revamp these mass-produced dolls and turn them into mini humans.
The artist hopes to counter the concept of flawless beauty by modifying the dolls’ faces and giving them realistic human traits and flaws. Her work is like a breath of fresh air among an ocean of Photoshopped selfies and unrealistic beauty standards.
She Went From Jolie To Farrow
This Bratz doll looked an awful lot like Angelina Jolie. But Olga Kamenetskaya decided to mess with the mass-produced doll and add a couple of fine details, skin discoloration and depth. Then she messed around with the original features and made the doll’s eyes far more realistic. She also got a new hairdo. And now she’s a gorgeous redhead doll with bangs and adorable freckles. What a stunning creation!
Now She Actually Looks Like Wonder Woman’s Mom
You can’t just leave Wonder Woman’s momma, Queen Hippolyta looking bland. Kamenetskaya knew she needed to work her magic. With a few paint strokes, makeup, and a hairstyle makeover, the doll finally resembles Connie Nielsen, the actress who played her. She’s so lifelike, we can’t believe this isn’t an actual picture of Nielsen!
Slightly Pixaresque
You might think this couldn’t possibly be the same doll. But here’s the thing; the artist didn’t just use shadows and shading techniques to make the doll look different. She used various types of lino-cutters and sandpaper to give the lips a much thinner form.
She Can Turn Dolls Into Kevin Spacey, Too
Kamenetskaya does boy dolls, as well. Check out this blonde stud on the left. He’s cute, sure, but he doesn’t look that realistic. We’re guessing there’s no room for aging in a world made of plastic, right? But Kamenetskaya changed all that by making the doll look more like a seasoned Kevin Spacey.
She Deliberately Adds Flaws
Kamenetskaya’s talent is both scary and amazing. This is the exact same doll, but it looks so different after it got the Kamenetskaya treatment. She deliberately added “flaws” like moles, under eye bags, and freckles to add a sense of realism because let’s face it, nobody’s perfect and that’s what makes us so unique.
This Was A True X-Files
Kamenetskaya worked her magic on this Dana Scully doll from “The X-Files” and got her face to look less like an Instagram filter and more like actress Gillian Anderson. She looks so much better with the makeover, don’t you think?
She Gives Them Teeth, Too
She turned the original doll into a stunning lifelike beauty. The contouring is spot on, just like Kamenetskaya’s painting skills. She even gave the doll more realistic-looking lips and added some teeth to this blonde bombshell.
This One’s Better Than The Original
Look at the depth in her eyes and the shape of those lips! The makeover definitely did wonders for this mass-produced plastic beauty! The doll on the left was merely an imitation of what a woman supposedly looks like. But the doll on the right has so many details, it kind of feels like she’s staring into our soul.
She Looks Fantastically Mystical
Kamenetskaya tweaked the original doll’s features and said goodbye to her plastic brown eyes. Now she has a much more realistic crystal blue shade and a mole on one of her cheeks. She even made sure to add more texture and depth to the skin and the end results are striking.
From Gollum To “Gawgeous”
Breaking the stereotype of perfect beauty has been Kamenetskaya’s goal from the get-go. So, she changed the doll on the left, who looks a bit like Gollum, into a bald beauty with a face full of glitter, defined eyebrows, and a jewelry collection the Kar-Jenners would envy.
It’s Tim Burton Cute
The level of precision of the skin tone, the freckles and the eyes are sheer perfection. Even something as simple as adding some shade to the cute button nose makes this doll simply adorable in a Tim Burton’s “Nightmare Before Christmas” sort of way.
